WELCOME TO THIS WEEK’S EDITION OF SALIENCE

This week we cover fish traceability, alcohol-free beverages, and the need to make primary healthcare more accessible. Plus, AI is analysing its own performance, and world leaders are seeing a whole new version of themselves.

You can let us know your thoughts on these stories and any other topics that you would like covered by emailing [email protected]

Go Fish

If you’ve ever wondered where the salmon on your plate came from, blockchain might have the answer. Projects are trialling the use of this tech to trace where a fish was caught, who processed it, and whether environmental standards were met, signalling a new future for sustainable fishing.

To your good health

Primary healthcare needs to be more accessible to those with learning disabilities, and Sapience client Dimensions has produced e-learning resources to help GPs do just that. Speaking to BBC Radio Somerset (1hr34), Dr Mark Brookes MBE and Locality Manager Harriet Withams outline the urgent need for this training.

Help meet healthcare needs

Ask the AI

Developers are constantly trying to improve AI, and now they may have some help. Google is testing whether AI itself can help design new generations of computer chips which consistently outperform their predecessors, potentially saving months of the normally time-intensive development process.

Mocktail hour

Considering a low-alcohol summer? Sapience client Gunner, a UK-based producer of ready-to-drink cocktails and mocktails, has created a survey to gain insight into our drinking habits. Let them know your opinions on non-alcoholic alternatives and be in with a chance of winning a £200 John Lewis voucher!

And finally, Mount Recyclemore

The G7 won’t be the only summit in Cornwall this summer. A local artist has built a replica of Mount Rushmore entirely from electronic waste with the aim of spotlighting the global problems around technology disposal, replacing the faces of US presidents with those of the seven leaders who have gathered for the annual meeting.
