Keynote speaker was Nicolas Véron, a leading French economist and Senior Fellow at the prestigious Brussels based think-tank Bruegel. He was recently given the accolade of being included in Bloomberg Markets’ second annual 50 Most Influential list.
Véron spoke on the pending outcome of a deal between the UK and the European Union, weighing up the potential deals and their likelihood. His view is that the UK’s fate will most likely be a “Fake Brexit” or otherwise spoken as a “Norway Plus” deal. Fake Brexit as he called it, would mean access to the single market and the European Economic Area, additionally affirming membership of the customs union. In Véron’s view, this deal would be not only the most probable, but the least disruptive with respect to the UK economy and businesses.
