Sustainability Spotlight

A study has found that on average, cities are warming 29% more quickly than rural areas – with bigger cities heating up faster than smaller ones. While urban expansion is a key factor in rising temperatures, urban greening schemes are an effective counter-measure. Initiatives such as planting trees, rainwater gardens and de-paving streets can all reduce the impact of heating in cities, not to mention having both physical and mental health benefits for city-dwellers!

Canine cloning

A Chinese biotech company has birthed the first ever cloned wolf, from the womb of a beagle. Using the same technology as Dolly the Sheep, cloning may have a role to play in saving endangered species, though many ethical concerns remain.
