Sustainability Spotlight
Could beavers be the latest solution to Britain’s fight against ecosystem decline and flooding? Studies show that active beaver wetlands can welcome up to a third more species across the food chain, compared to ones without. Beaver dams are also a great flood defense, slowing the flow rate and lessening the impact of high and rapid water during flooding.
Playing mind games
Researchers have grown human brain cells in a lab using stem cells and mouse embryos that have now learned to play the 1970s tennis-like video game, Pong. This research might eventually be used to test treatments for Alzheimer’s.
No brainer
Researchers have transplanted human neurons into rat brains to shed fresh light on debilitating neurological and psychiatric disorders such as epilepsy and schizophrenia. This also allows the impact of medication and drugs to be studied in real-time.
Thought leadership

This week in PR
On our socials this week, we explored examples of how climate change can be tackled, looking to the Isle of Man for inspiration! The island has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, with an interim target of 35% by 2030.
Sapience’s favourite
The River Aller in Exmoor is being liberated through a pioneering project that will allow the river to “decide where it wants to go”. This kind of restoration project is set to create the conditions for more flora and fauna to thrive in the area!
